Handing Over Prelude to Chaos to Editors and Kicking Off the Game Design Journey.
Hey everyone, Neil Chakrabarty checking in again—your friendly neighborhood retired CTO, Army vet, and eternal sci-fi junkie. It’s only been a few days since my last update, but things are moving fast in the AI Rim Expansion universe. I’m buzzing with excitement because I’ve just wrapped up the final revisions on Book 1, Prelude to Chaos, and handed the manuscript over to my editors. That’s right—after months of late nights, endless world-building, and tweaking those high-stakes plot twists, it’s out of my hands and into the polishing phase. Expect some fresh insights and refinements from the pros before we launch on Amazon. If all goes smoothly, we’re looking at a release in the coming weeks. Pre-order details coming soon—stay tuned!
For anyone catching up, Prelude to Chaos kicks off this epic series in the Tau Sector, where the Central AI’s Teleport Frames knit together a fragile interstellar web. We dive into the lives of underdogs like Jex Korr, the scrappy Kryon Reaver leader; Lila Voss, the no-nonsense Marine Captain holding the line on Elara Prime; and Gale Hagarswald, the brilliant engineer unraveling glitches that could shatter everything. It’s packed with themes of rebellion, clone ethics, AI dilemmas, and the ever-looming Shroud aliens lurking in the shadows. Writing this has been a blast, drawing on my tech background to make the science feel grounded—like those IPv1025 protocols powering the grid or the quantum hacks that drive the chaos.
And let’s not forget the backbone of it all: my ever-growing lore bible. Since my last post, it’s ballooned to over 75,000 pages (yeah, I added a few more details on Shroud infiltration tactics and the finer points of the 2700 Treaty of Coexistence). This monster document keeps the universe airtight—timelines, faction histories, character deep dives, and even speculative future events. It’s like having a personal AI assistant for continuity, ensuring no loose ends as we expand into the full 10-book saga.
With the book in editing limbo, I’m channeling my energy into the next big thing: the companion game. I’ve officially started drafting the game design document (GDD) for this online browser-based tile adventure. Think classic tile-exploration meets real-time strategy, all steeped in the Tau Sector lore. Players will pick sides—maybe align with the Core Worlds Pact for structured campaigns or go rogue with the Kryon Reavers for high-risk raids. You’ll navigate dynamic planetary maps, command fleets through Teleport Frames, hack systems, and make choices that ripple through dialogues with AI NPCs modeled after book characters. Jex’s sarcasm? Lila’s tactical grit? It’s all there, making the game feel like an extension of the story. I’m drawing on my 27 years in software to code this solo, starting with core mechanics like tile generation and faction balancing. Beta testing isn’t far off—aiming to sync it with the book’s release for maximum immersion.
This is just the prelude (pun intended) to a massive interconnected world: 10 books and 10 games, from Teleport Wars’ grid-hacking rebellions to Oblivion Rising’s ancient relic doomsday scenarios. Your feedback will shape it all, so I’m pumped to hear from you.
What do you think—ready to command a Reaver fleet or defend against Shroud incursions? Drop your thoughts in the comments, and let’s geek out over sci-fi strategies. More updates soon—keep exploring the stars!
